Here's the story I've heard about the sucking OPTi chipset:
Opti buys components from other companies. At one time UMC
produced bad DMA controller chips. These chips found their
way to certain mother boards with UMC chipsets, as well as
to boards with OPTi chipsets. To my knowledge, UMC no longer
produces the buggy DMA controllers so neither OPTi or UMC
should be bad anymore.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what the stuffed UMC chipset was... I have
a UMC myself, and have had problems with a few expansion cards.

Well, since this was sent today, and the messages are quite large, I'd
assume that they are caught up in some mailers. I myself recieved 1-5
and 8.
I'm gonna wait a few days before I start complaining ;).

Hi all,
Many of you have had some troubles getting all parts of DMP.. but they
should arrive to your mail box eventually. The mail server is in
South Africa and doesn't have a very good connection to the Internet..
not to mention there are a lot of ppl on the mailing list..
Another way to get it is FTP from ftp.cdrom.com:/pub/demos/music/programs/players

Yeah...it's not a bad player, but darn it, Otto, I like 25-line mode for
MOD playing! :)
The tagger's no problem ,since I use my own method -- play one MOD at a
time.

I haven't even recieved a single part yet. It's nice to know that a new
version is out.... and all I have to do is just WAIT. (I am on DMP-LIST)
I imagine part 8 is relatively small coompared to the other parts; perhaps
your system has a size priority (Like mine - I could wait for a LONG time <g>)
so the smallest file/message got in first.
Hope it helps...

Hi!
I got the DMP v4.00 yesterday, it worked well except that I missed the old
25 lines screen and I couldn't adjust the amplification-- It was loud
even when I turned the volume down to 6 by pressing the '-' key.
It is a great music player.
Good job, Otto!
Does anyone know that "Will the future version supports XM format?"

Thanks Otto,
Part three 'finally' showed up this morning late :-). Unfortunately,
not running well here. Trying to shell to DOS either locks the keyboard,
or gives a QEMM memory exception 13 (but in both cases DMP continues to
play the MOD in background).
DMP32 puts my soundblaster pro in a strange state which overlays the
output with ssss ssss ssss ssss ssss ssss sounds (even tho it plays the
mod).
It's back to 3.01 for me (but I'll try 4.00 on the system at home before
I give up on it completely :-).
System here is 486DX/33, SB-PRO, 16Meg of memory, AMI BIOS.
Hope it's working for everybody else - sure liked the features.

DMP32 gives me the same problem except that I use my Windows Sound
System. DMP sometimes reboot in the middle of a song for no reason or
when I change the digital effect.

Did you run DSETUP.EXE? I didn't and went crazt tryng to figure out why
it didn't work for almost 20 minutes before I checked the dmp4 directory
for other executable files...
(it works fine now, btw... but I liked 25 lines! And the B function
doesn't work like it should...it goes to the next song, not the previous
one. But other than that...)

Read the documentation of course :).. in DMP.DOC it states that you must run
DSETUP to configure your sound card...
